I am glad you feel that way Rachel and I hope that others feel that way as well within your congregation.

I think the main point that came out of the programme, which would be wise council for your governing body, is not to be so rigid and blinkered to the reality of the manipulative paedophile mind. It is fine to keep an internal record of suspected paedophiles, but this should have been made available to the secular police force a long time ago. This serves to further protect the victims of abuse and also to give the organisation that you belong to a good standing in the eyes of the law.

It is ok to question the intentions of your peers. It really is. They are human, the same as you and do make mistakes ! I would hope that the governing body are grown up enough to humble themselves and admit to their error in this particular instance.

I hope you don't get too much grief when you knock on those doors Believe me, when I used to attend meetings / go on the ministry, I had my fair share of abuse. It was actually quite good fun seeing somebody blow their lid ! At least I thought so, but then I am a very sick man.

DFing, its affect on JWs

we've talked a lot here about how dfing affects those that are disfellowshipped.. after reading the info from the august km, i got to thinking about how shunning affects the shunners.. i think that the suppression of love that shunning requires kills a little bit of their soul every time they do it.. joel

I think it depends on who is doing the shunning. I know of brothers who will still smile or acknowledge ex-members, but not go into a full length hello and hows life without your brothers style chat. Which I think is fair enough to be honest. But to completely turn your face away, literally. and look down your nose is childish and lacks dignity.

I have a theory as well, that if you are born into the truth and the society, then you are more likely to jump in front of a passing car than greet an ex-member. Due to a lack of fellow feeling for somebody who may be depressed and certainly in need of friendship.

Whereas, if you have delved into the excrement of secular society (at least thats how I see the world most of the time) and come out the other side, after experiences that enable empathy, then you are more likely to display a charitable attitude to whoever it may be passing your way.

The GOOD SAMARITAN is a fine example of extending yourself beyond your belief system... surely? Maybe the snobs within the JW society should have a closer look at that scripture.

Hmmmm .......

The Panorama programme was interesting and insightful, but I would have liked it to go further myself (maybe another hour). It would have been good for the team to focus more upon the mind-set that leads to this stubborn and hard-line attitude, that prevents positive action taking place to help resolve these horrible crimes.

The way the programme came across was upon reflection biased towards sensationalism, that will lead in many cases to a profound knee-jerk response from the mindless.

Would it not be sad, if your average JW, had to face a barrage of insults due to a report through the media that seemed to suggest that every JW was a stubborn, paedophile protecting looney !?! When quite clearly this is not the case.

I know when I was *in the truth*, I would have followed the company line and adhered to the rules laid out by the elders and GB, and I'm pretty sure that most ex-JWs would have done the same. looking back again, I can see how my mind worked at that time and can appreciate the steel box that one is bound by, so as not to have free thought in matters of moral law.

My sadness lies with the victims of these terrible crimes and my anger lies with certain elders and members higher up, who should have known better. These possible paedophiles should have been handed over to secular authority in the first instance. Elders & the GB for the most part (I would assume) have no formal training to deal with these highly manipulative individuals. They need to come under pressure and intense scrutiny to unearth the truth.

To cast the whole of the JW standards and philosophy into a pit of excrement straight away is foolish though, based upon one programme (which I know some people will do). I am grateful looking back, that enforced Bible standards helped me kick a drug habbit amongst other things out of my life and for that part of my existance, I have the WTS to thank (I can hear memebers of this board cursing my name ) .... .. .

Why do you believe???

i have a question for everybody.

it has probably been asked before, but i'll ask it again in case anyone changed their minds.... why do/don't you believe in god/god.

what give you faith in things not beheld/makes you not believe?.

Thats a hard question, obviously, and very searching .

Hmmm ... 60% of the time I believe in the existance of GOD. Albeit my GOD is not exactly the GOD that I thought it was originally. It has transformed from an all caring/sharing entity, to one that I see as being an emotionless state, that dictates in higher mathematic formula, that somehow weaves curious physical forms out of pure energy (don't ask - I can't even understand my mind most of the time).

I believe that we as humans carry a distinct and clear spiritual essense to oursleves, that allows us great insight into the world around us and within limits we are allowed to extend a unique creative ability.

Now ... 40% of the time, I think, phuk that and leg it! I run screaming from any belief in a GOD and hide under a rock.

I think I need tablets - STRONG ONES !!!

Hardline on disfellowshipped ones

once again a hard line is being taken on shunning disfellowshipped and disassociated ones.

perhaps this is some sort of backlash against the recent adverse dateline publicity in the us, the forthcoming pananorama programme in the uk and problems with a number of influential ones leaving the organization.

the text below is from the august km insert and the meeting part is to be handled by a "well qualified" elder with the paragraphs being read by a "capable reader".

i suppose this is a tale of how badly a set of extreme beliefs can effect the mind!.

i knew of a brother who suffered with mental ill health and often had hallucinations, of the visual variety.

after a while during his passage through the truth he began to see strange demons in unusual places.

I tell you without a doubt, these tales are true ..... I know the power of the mind and how it can twist reality !

I actually attended one of the congregations for a while where one of these events occured. I have worse tales to tell !

To further the twisted tales a little more .....

Another brother I knew of (a few years back) actually went into the Sadam Hussain Mosque (Birmingham, England) and defiled the Holy carpet (by treading on it while wearing his shoes), plus he then took their Holy book and flung it the floor, proclaiming that judgement was upon them. Then to cap it all he tore down a curtain and then legged it!

Another true tale of curious flipped JW behaviour.

Needless to say, he was chased by several Muslim men down the road and had to seek shelter in a friends house. The elders at that time had a bit of a problem calming down the local Muslim community

I found this rather amusing at the time and wished I had the balls to be so extreme and really shake some foundations !

Its an easy way to die ..... if a slightly painful way.
